The company will close its Port Dundas distillery in Glasgow and a packaging plant in Kilmarnock in Ayrshire.
The closures are due to take place over the next two years but Diageo has said that the expansion of a packaging plant in Fife will create 400 new jobs.
Managing Director Bryan Donaghey expressed his regret at the announcement but offered the company’s employees his full support.
“These decisions have been extremely difficult to take. We have only reached them after an exhaustive review of all the possible alternatives,” Donaghey added.
