Hatfield House and Park, which houses the magnificent Old Palace childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I, is currently undergoing a major development program, which will see several new areas for visitors including: nine outbuildings which have been converted into shops, a newly created children’s adventure playground featuring a scale model of Hatfield House, a renovated Victorian kitchen and a traditional breeds children’s farm, in addition to a full calendar of annual events and performances.
To complement the work going on in Hatfield Park and to accommodate the increased number of visitors, Compass will be extending the existing Coach House restaurant over two floors and creating a new café providing visitors with even greater choice. In addition, Compass will continue to provide all conference and banqueting, weddings, events and sub-contract the field catering at Hatfield.
The 15-year deal is expected, by year five and following the development program, to be worth £2.5 million in annual turnover to Compass’ Sport, Leisure and Hospitality business.
Nick Moorhouse, Business Director at Hatfield House said: ‘’We are absolutely delighted to have agreed a new 15 year contract with Compass, which is a key element of our vision for making Hatfield House and Park an all year round leisure attraction, appealing to all ages and visitors with a broad range of interests.’’
Matthew Thompson, Managing Director of Compass’ Sport, Leisure and Hospitality business, said: “The history of Hatfield House is well known and is what makes it such an appealing visitor destination and event space. The future for the house is equally exciting and Compass is proud to be part of it. We are going to be working closely together on all aspects of the extended catering and hospitality offer and very much look forward to continuing the partnership in the newly developed setting.”
Compass’ relationship with Hatfield House began in 2005 after it was awarded the contract following a competitive tender.
