Yum! Brands Inc. has been selected No. 44 on Fortune magazine's list of most-admired companies. Yum! Brands is the parent company which oversees KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, A& W and Long John Silver’s. With a repertoire like that, how wouldn’t Yum! Brands make the most admired list?
The Louisville-based restaurant company ranked No. 2 in the food-services category, behind McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE: MCD).
The magazine’s survey asked businesspeople to vote for companies that they admired most, from any industry.
Yum! Brands received high scores for people management, use of corporate assets, financial soundness, long-term investment and global competitiveness. Its lowest scores came from quality of products and services.

Other local companies that were listed, but didn’t make the top 50, included Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) and Kindred Healthcare Inc. (NYSE: KND).
Humana was No. 3 in the insurance and managed care industry, and Kindred ranked No. 4 in the medical facilities category. Kindred spin-off Louisville-based PharMerica Corp. (NYSE: PMC) was ranked No. 7 among pharmacy companies.
Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) again was named the most admired company, followed by Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG), Berkshire Hathaway, Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) and Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG).
Apple has topped the list for four straight years.
